We are excited to announce that Transforming Youth Recovery joins the 2016 University of North Texas Recovery Conference as a major sponsor. Transforming Youth Recovery is a 501(c) 3 non-profit founded by Stacie Mathewson that looks specifically at the community, educational and peer networks that influence youth development and achievement.
Held at the University of North Texas, the 4th Annual Recovery Conference is a national two-day event that brings together behavioral health professionals, educators, researchers, students, and industry leaders. Held in conjunction with National Recovery Month, the conference will take place September 21 and 22, 2016 in Denton, Texas.
This is not the first time Transforming Youth Recovery has supported the University of North Texas. In 2014, the organization provided the Department of Disability and Addiction Rehabilitation a seed grant to establish its Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP). UNT’s CRP provides support to students in recovery from substance misuse by offering weekly wellness meetings, a physical space for students to connect with others in recovery, a designated wing in a UNT residence hall for students in recovery, and Eagle Peer Recovery, a student organization offering alcohol-free parties, tailgating and other activities. Staff members with CRP work with Denton Life of Purpose staff to serve students who enrolled at UNT, but interrupted their time on campus to complete an inpatient treatment program and are returning and need further outpatient treatment.
“We are extremely excited to announce that we will be joined by Transforming Youth Recovery in sponsoring the UNT Recovery Conference,” said Andrew Burki, Founder and CEO of Life of Purpose Treatment. “Transforming Youth Recovery is at the very forefront of thought leadership and financial support for the collegiate recovery, recovery advocacy, and recovery research movements. TYR’s total dedication to these causes precedes and has, in fact, even significantly contributed to the growing national momentum behind creating a better world for emerging adults to recover, grow, and thrive in.”
Daniel Fred, Transforming Youth Recovery’s Director of Recovery Programs and National Outreach will be a panelist on the conference’s Collegiate Recovery Panel. The panel titled, “Increasing Recovery Support Services to Students”, will be held on Thursday, September 22 at 10:45am.
“We are so excited to be a part of the new 4th annual UNT Recovery Conference,” said Daniel Fred. “We believe in doing everything we can in advancing the recovery research and making recovery more accessible on every level. It is incredible to be able to partner with other organizations with the same desire, like Life of Purpose and UNT. Join us at this conference and be a part of the solution.”
The conference features 18 expert speakers and 13 sponsors from all over the United States. Along with Transforming Youth Recovery, this year’s event sponsors include Life of Purpose Treatment, Cirque Lodge, St. Christopher’s Addiction Wellness Center, La Hacienda, Northbound Treatment Services, Burning Tree, Jaywalker Lodge, and The Eating Recovery Center.
Proceeds from the 4th Annual Recovery Conference will benefit UNT’s Office of Substance Misuse and Mental Health Recovery Research, which provides research, courses, and workshops for recovery treatment professionals.
